The Deschutes Basin in central Oregon faces a unique set of challenges. Blessed with abundant groundwater and relatively steady streamflows, the watershed nonetheless strives to balance water needs of farms, fish and communities including the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs. The Deschutes River Conservancy works collaboratively with Deschutes Basin irrigation districts and others to promote healthier rivers. Fluent is working with DRC to develop a pilot water bank to facilitate moving water between farmers and other farmers, and also between farms and the environment and cities. Modernizing water management is a key step for the basin as it faces a hotter, drier future.
